Sebaceous Gland Hyperplasia is a common skin condition that becomes more prominent with age. It often develops in people who have had acne or greasy skin. It looks like multiple small skin coloured or foamy white bumps, often with a central dimple. It can develop anywhere on the face but is more common on the forehead, temples and cheeks.

It can be very difficult to treat - creams alone do not work. At Stafford Skincare, we use Hyfrecation (often called Plasma) to treat the lesions. Firstly, a local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin. Once the area is numbed, each individual lesion is treated by Hyfrecation / Plasma. This flattens the raised bump, leaving a brown carbon crust which lasts for about 5 days. The carbon crust drops off and the skin underneath heals over about a 2 week period. For most people the skin heals without any scars. It is necessary to avoid sun exposure for 6-8 weeks after treatment to avoid the risk of developing hyperpigmentation.

The cost of Hyfrecation is £375 per treatment session. Treatments may need to be repeated, depending on the number of skin lesions, and the desired effect.
